Kampong Glam

Today we followed some more of Ingeborg's tips and visited Parkview Square which is an amazing art deco style building which looks very much like Gotham City. It was only built in the 1990's but looks like it's much older, and on the ground floor there's the most amazing wine bar, which we will go back to for a drink, but for today I asked if they'd mind me taking some photos which you can see in my extras - I couldn't get a decent shot of the building due to the position of the sun, but I'll  take that when we go back.  There's also a museum on the third floor, and there are numerous consulates and embassies that are based in the offices above.

From there we carried on to Kampong Glam, an area that we've never seen on our visits before, but I think it's one of my favourites - It's the Malay-Muslim quarter and was once home to the Malay Royals.  There are lots of little streets with buildings covered in street art, it's so colourful and vibrant and has become Singapore's first outdoor art gallery.  With the little shops, bars and restaurants, it felt like we were walking through North Laine in Brighton, except here, the street art is respected and hasn't been 'tagged' or painted over like in the UK.

We then walked to Little India, which is nice to see but doesn't hold the same charm.  We called into Sim Lin City which is a shopping centre on several floors dedicated to electronics and photography - Alan's kind of shopping mall!  I was interested to look at camera lenses, but the prices are no better than in the UK, although I did end up buying a strap for my Apple Watch.

Today has probably been the hottest and most humid day, so by 2pm we'd had enough of walking around and decided to head back and go to Chijmes for a beer and a glass of wine (or two), and then I went for a swim while Alan did some work emails - officially he should have been working, but as the meeting ended a day early he had the day off, but wanted to do his report and deal with anything that needed doing before he set his out of office for the next week.

Tonight we caught the MRT to Clarke Quay which is an area of restaurants and bars on the banks of the river, and starting tonight and over the weekend there's a pre-F1 music festival with a central stage and lots of local bands playing.  To top that, each bar seemed to have their own band too, so it was very lively!  We ate at a Chinese restaurant that we've been to before and had a lovely meal, until I knocked my wine glass over and onto my dress - luckily it was white wine so it's not stained but I smell like a wino!

Thanks for all your comments, I am reading them all, just not having time to reply back x
