Katydid

It rained like crazy today - buckets...a proverbial deluge. The sun came out for a short while and I dashed into the perennial border with my camera thinking I'd find some cool raindrops on flower shots. I came across this Oregon Katydid - Scudderia furcata. I'd never seen one before so initially thought it was a grasshopper. I used iNaturalist again to identify it - super cool app for the iPhone. 

I'm not sure if she did the damage to the dahlia and then decorated it with her waste, but I was happy to capture this interesting creature.
