Nature Diary... Peace in our time ...
The Countryside at the Start of Autumn
After the wonderful weather in late August there was a distinct chill in the air this morning, but with no wind and a serene feeling about it the countryside looked calm, peaceful, and totally relaxed, and it was good to be out with a camera to record the sights before any really bad weather hits us. Just a day. Just a day in life when all is calm. When the animals graze, when the farmer bales the hay, when the fruit starts to ripen, and when peace reigns, away from politicians ripping into each other like rabid dogs and people screaming their opinions like they were each born to rule because everybody thinks they know best. There was more dignity around me in a field of sheep and cows. More peace sitting on a dry stone wall loving the scene of nature carrying on as normal despite the devastation human beings have caused and are still causing to planet Earth with their thoughtless greed and their war-like natures. Once upon a time we prayed for ‘Peace in our time’ and people were glad to be alive, glad to be living in peace, and were grieving for the loss of loved ones killed in war: in WW2 and in Korea. Neighbour helped neighbour and I grew up in a country which was respected and respectable. “Those were the days, my friend, we thought they’d never end”…..
