Nature Diary... A Joyful Sight
It has been wonderful to see so many young Sparrows visiting the feeders throughout the summer.
There have been at least 3 broods of birds to each couple of parents, possibly 4. Starting way back at the beginning of the year when we had a surprising early hot spell right through to now, late August, these cheerful little chaps, their numbers in serious decline, have made their way through an incredible amount of food and have worked hard to raise their young. Even today there are hungry fluffy little ones cheeping heartily to be fed, almost but not quite able to be left to feed by themselves.
It’s many years since there have been so many Sparrows gathering round the bird feeders and it brings back many happy memories of times long since gone when they would be visible in all the parks and gardens in the UK. Long may they continue to survive and, hopefully, flourish.
(Thank you again to everyone who has visited my journal while my comments have been turned off, and many thanks also for all the stars and hearts, very much appreciated)
