A ride on the Great Wheel
Tonight, I got to do something I've been hankering to do for many, many months now --- ride The Seattle Great Wheel!
The ferris wheel ride capped off a wonderful evening that included a scrumptious dinner with Richard, his sister Marcia, and their cousin Deb, whom they haven't seen for eons, and Deb's lovely husband Mike. It's always fun to take in conversations about family, and traditions, and who moved where, and who did what, or who married who . . . I enjoy observing people's faces and gestures as they speak, and watching how they interact with each other. Tonight's group was very relaxed and garrulous!
The ferris wheel was a few miles down the street on the Seattle waterfront. It looked especially dramatic lit up against the night sky. The wheel stands 175 feet high, and at that height, is the largest wheel on the west coast. The gondolas (42 of them) are fully enclosed and climate controlled. This is luxury ferris wheeling at its best. Needless to say, the nighttime views of the bay and the ferries and the city were simply breathtaking, and it wasn't even too scary being up at the top, even for someone like me who gets queasy up high. In fact, I'm already looking forward very much to returning this summer!
