It's cider o'clock
Was Monday only yesterday?
7.15am Allotment .. pulled out the broad bean plants, I'm not going to get a second crop. Turned the piece, then planted rainbow chard seedlings. Had a chat with a plot neighbour. Gave her boys some timber to make a den. Gave her some rather large courgettes to add to her veggie curry. Turned another 8' x 4' patch then added top dressing of homemade compost.
11.00 Home. Made egg & bacon sarnies for brunch. Pricked out seedlings. Scorchio! Plants in greenhouse & pots in trays needed watering.
12.45 Back up the allotment with hubby. Cut some old carpet into lengths to make paths ( the idea is to suppress the grass making the paths less messy). Now it's really scorchio. Phew!!! My brain does'nt work when it's soooo warm. Hubby has done enough & gone. I clean up the courgette & pumpkin plants, removing the leaves with powdery mildew. I pick blackberries, raspberries, more courgettes, runner beans, AND the first corn cob of the year. :) Sit back in the only patch of shade & untangle the string from the canes that I used to support the broad beans. Pack that away for another day in the future. Head home at 16.00. Did'nt feel like making pastry for homemade pasties, AND I had just picked the first corn so the menu was changed. A few preparations for dinner then it was that moment ..... cider o'clock. Ah, bliss!!
