Five Sisters Zoo
I don't normally like zoos but today Sabrina and I took little Lucy to this one which is a conservation and rescue animal park.
There were lots of animals that were fun to watch like monkeys, lemurs, prairie dogs, parrots and wallabies and many more. They all had spacious and natural enclosures.
There were some lions who hardly moved, just lazing about in the sun. You can't blame them either as they were rescued from a travelling circus in Belgium where they were kept in appalling conditions. They had been declawed and castrated at an early age and the hormone disruption had prevented their manes growing.
There was also a massive forested enclosure with bears but we never saw them; they must have been snoozing somewhere too. The bears were rescued from a small cage at a roadside cafe in Albania and were severely malnourished.
Thank heavens for such places that give these wonderful animals sanctuary after lives of exploitation and abuse.
Wee Lucy seemed to enjoy herself but when we asked her if she'd had a nice time she said 'No'. She did enjoy her lunchbox though!
