Two Slightly Camp Gentlemen Guarding A Door

Budapest: Day 2
A morning at the Gouba art market and the organic farmers market held in the Szimpla Kert ruin bar. The ruin bars are bars in dilapidated pre-war buildings and Szimpla is the largest being a collection of rooms and areas all with quirky decor and graffiti (extra) and has regular live music.

We then walked part way along the famous (and rather grand) Andrássy Avenue and I loved these two slightly camp gentlemen guarding this impressive doorway.

Stephen was the first Christian king of Hungary. He was later made a saint and the St Stephen’s Basilica was built in his honour. Being Sunday there was a service in progress so we couldn’t have a full visit, but enough to see the stunning mosaic domes and ornate interior. We were able walk the 300+ steps to the top of the tower and were afforded a beautiful (if not slightly hazy) view of the city.
