Country pong.

Sewage sludge doesn't carry quite the same olfactory connotations as animal manure.  On one side the arable land comes to within 25 metres of the house and in hot weather last year we had an ammonia 'event' with 48 hours of nose and throat irritation.  I wonder whether the land needs this much extra organic matter (the claim that UK land only had 30/60/100 years of harvests turned out to be 'fake' news) or whether it is pressure to disperse ever larger quantities of human sewage sludge (population growth) that drives this particular practice.

Household waste from London was spread on East Anglian fields 100 years ago and the books contained in it provided author, Sybil Marshall, with supplementary reading material when she was a child.
