Ashes

A lovely day at Headingley, in Leeds, to watch England v Australia in the third test match of this year's Ashes series. England managed to score their lowest total against Australia in a Test match since 6 years before I was born. The Aussies played well, bowling accurately and later batting with great concentration.  England's batting was woeful, only slightly redeemed by some hard work in the field later.

The biggest cheer of the day came when, after the crowd on the lively Western Terrace had spent a happy time playing with a giant inflatable melon, which blew on to the pitch and was confiscated by a steward.  England's new star - Jofra Archer - took the melon off the steward and returned it to the crowd, to rapturous acclaim. It is, after all, only a game.
