Macaw
We took a day off from the beach and headed down the road to El Refugio de Potosi We have been hearing of this small preserve south of town since we arrived, but it took our Biology Major daughter visiting to actually get us in the car. We were extremely glad we did as El Refugio is a wonderful 2-3 hour excursion. We were guided by a knowledgeable young man who spoke very good English (I opted to skip the Spanish language tour, even though my family was all for it) and knew all about the many animals on display. We visitors were invited to hold many of the non-poisonous animals; boa constrictor, porcupine, tailless scorpion among others, making for a truly interactive experience. The three macaws near the visitor center were a star attraction. The colors and detail of their feathers making for a beautiful reminder of our trip.
