Through the frame!
Thursday
According to the forecast, today promised to be somewhat cooler and with less humidity, so we had arranged to take our friends John and Ellen up to Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park up in Hamilton. and take a picnic lunch. Roger and I have been a number of times to Pyramid Hill, but this was the first time for John and Ellen. I have been trying to take them for a while, but finding a good weather day, dry but not too hot, when we’re both available has proved to be difficult! Hamilton has great significance for Ellen and I, as it’s where we met many years ago now, when we first came over to the States, and I got a job as Assistant Cataloguer at Lane Public Library in Hamilton - Ellen was my immediate boss! She later left and moved to Morgantown, West Virginia, and we moved to France for 10 years from 1986-96, but Ellen was always very faithful at keeping in touch, and when we did meet up again, it was as if we’d never been away! Back to today, we first went for a drive around, giving them an introduction to the place. Then we decided to have our picnic. I remember at least two occasions we’ve had a picnic there before, and they used to have numerous wooden picnic tables around, but they seem to have got rid of them all, and the only place we could find in the shade was in their big pavilion, where they do special events - not quite what I’d had in mind - I was thinking of somewhere overlooking one of the lakes, but it wasn’t to be! After lunch, we explored some of the areas on foot, but it was still fairly hot, and J and E aren’t as big walkers as we are, so we limited our time outside, but we did enjoy the air conditioning in the small museum, which beside some antiquity sculptures, had some interesting articles in one of the rooms about Harry Wilkes who founded the park.
