Keeping a promise

A day of very mixed emotions. We were in Sussex for the celebration of D’s life, my friend of 56 years.

When we visited her at home in June she gave me six tomato plants that had just arrived in the post and told me to care for them. I promised to do so and said that we would visit in August and that I would deliver some fruit.

It was wishful thinking by both of us, but one can only be positive and hope. Today I laid a single tomato on her grave. She would appreciate the madness of this act.
