Bridge Art

Today was going to be a busy day so I went out promptly for a walk before it got hot. I walked along the Cherry Creek Trail towards Confluence Park, where it joins the South Platte River. This is where it all began! This is where Denver was born when men searching for gold set up mining camps along the river at this point.

Right by Confluence Park is a bridge where Speer Blvd crosses a smaller road leading up to Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park. Underneath the bridge are these wonderful pieces of art. See the Extra photo for more scenes from both sides of the underneath of the bridge.

Also in the Extra photo is a view of the Confluence itself. Where the two rivers meet there is sand, and it becomes very busy at weekends with families - kids and adults and dogs - playing in and cooling off in the water. Sometimes I’ve seen kayaking and paddle boarding over the rapids. That’s Speer Blvd again going over the South Platte River. The big brick building is an historic building and is now the flagship store of REI - equipment for any type of outdoor activity you could imagine, and including its very own climbing wall inside.

The bottom right of the Extra photo shows the Denver historic tram - which is only a small section of the restored tram line, but it provides a shuttle during summer months to the Children’s museum and to the Denver Aquarium. I’ve not ridden on it yet!
