Sweet Eugi

I spent a good part of my day trudging around the bear houses in the rain trying to capture the perfect foraging image. And I did get some very good ones! But in the end this gorgeous picture of Eugi taken with my iphone, came up trumps.

If you don't remember Eugi, he was the bear that had been attacked by a dog as a cub, and had open weeping sores and alot of scar tissue. So we received funding to have a specialist surgeon come over and remove all of the scar tissue from his groin to help increase his mobility. His recovery has been a long and slow one, particularly as we had to do an emergency resuture 5 days after the initial surgery, due to him pulling the whole wound wide open! He still has a long way to go but yesterday we moved him into a bigger, more roomy hospital cage so that he can stand and start to stretch his legs. I can't wait to see how well he can walk and stand when he finally goes back to the house dens - only then will we really know if the surgery has been a success.

I dream of the day I can finally see him walk on grass for the first time...
