Victoria Crowe exhibition

We had a long, tiring but very enjoyable day in Edinburgh. Our first stop was the Victoria Crowe exhibition in the City Gallery, then we walked all the way to Alva Street in the west end for a tasty lunch at Forage and Chatter, or maybe it was called Lovage and Natter. Anyway the fish and smokey aubergine was delicious and the pudding one of the best ever. A lemon tart which was only a wafer thin biscuit with little bits of intense lemon piped on it, accompanied by an amazing sorbet which was flavoured by a fruit a bit like lime.

Then it was off to the book festival. A very entertaining talk by Fintan O’Toole on Brexit. (He put it down to English nationalism.)
Next up was Guy Leschziner, a neurologist talking about sleep disorders which was fascinating. Our last talk was Mariella Fostrup and Lois Pryce discussing women travellers. Lois had done solo motorbike journeys from Alaska to Tiera del Fuego, through Africa and in Iran. I got some tips for our forthcoming visit to Iran, if we ever get our letter of invitation. Mariella has produced a book about women explorers who are rarely heard of.

Then we had to walk the length of George Street, having a bit of Punjabi street food on our way to our respective trains. I got home at 9.30 pm and am ready to fall into bed.
