More August Flowers

Dear Diary,

August means sunflowers to me and late August use to mean 'back to school'.  I would often bring in a bouquet of sunflowers for my classroom.  One year I did a Van Gogh lesson with my first graders.  A little girl stuck her nose into one sunflower and came away with a yellow nose.  "Look Mrs. Turner," she exclaimed, "I've been pollinated!"  Great memories.  A teacher friend, also retired, is hosting a "Thank God We're Not Going Back To School" party the first week of September for all our retired teacher friends.  I think I will bring sunflowers!
