Brodgar Wonders
Today we spent most of our time at the Ness of Brodgar, a thin isthmus of land between two natural lochs, in a basin surrounded by low rolling hills. There was an open day on the archaeology dig (see extra), which was fascinating. They are unearthing the largest neolithic buildings in Western Europe. On opposite ends of the ness are the Ring of Brodgar (a standing stone circle) and the stones of stenness (main blip). Just beyond is Maeshowe, a very impressive neolithic tomb, with lots of Viking runic graffiti.
I also wanted to give a better impression of the beautiful landscapes here, so have added a couple more extras.
