Ishikura

Allium fistulosum "Ishikura."

This is a traditional Japanese type of bunching onion with single white stalks 20" long and 6" long green leaves at maturity.

In sun belt areas, winter planting is possible.

Use fresh or cooked. Be sure not to overcook, as they can become bitter.

Especially popular in Japan for pickling, in soups and in sukiyaki.

* Maturity: Approx. 66 days
* Planting season: Late spring to summer or fall

I particularly like the tiny turquoise heads.
