Brimham Rocks
Wednesday
Headed east into Yorkshire today. Tomorrow we are meeting up with my brother Peter and wife Judy in Runswick Bay for three days. Today we drove as far as Pateley Bridge, spending the afternoon at Brimham Rocks, which I have wanted to visit for a while - we’ve been really close to them before but never stopped. We enjoyed a sausage bap from their snack bar together with a drink, before going to explore the rocks. Brimham Rocks are an amazing collection of weird and wonderful rock formations, sculpted over centuries by ice, wind and rain, and overlooking beautiful Nidderdale. Scrambling onto and up the rocks is obviously a popular attraction, but I was amazed to see a couple of children, about 6 and 8 at the most, running about on top of one of the larger and higher formations, seemingly unsupervised! We then continued on to our accommodation in Pateley Bridge, booked last minute yesterday evening. We found we had been given an upgrade, as they were having hot water issues in the room we had originally been assigned, and had a lovely large room overlooking the valley, with a four poster bed and wonderful modern bathroom with a large oval bath and separate shower! Shame we’re only staying one night! A great dinner in their dining room rounded off the day! We were glad we hadn’t chosen to have dinner elsewhere, as we had quite a rain shower while we were eating!
