Let Dreams Soar
It’s not often that you see a mural on a private house, and for good reason—it’s against the law! At least in some places. Like Portland, where we are now. A neighbor objected to this image of children jumping off the iconic St John’s bridge, statutes were dusted off, noise was made. It’s not clear from the article (http://www.pdxstreetart.org/articles-all/letdreamssoar) what the outcome was, but the mural is still there, brightening this neighborhood corner.
Extras: We went for a walk on the bluffs overlooking the river after I posted this, so I’m adding a couple shots of the railroad bridge over the Willamette. The first thing to note is the low fog, or clouds, or rain, coming in. We were prepped for 90 degrees and sunny, but apparently something else entirely is happening. There was a lot of action on the river: first a long, mostly orange, freight train crossed the bridge. A small tug boat sailed under, two folks passed in a canoe. Then the bridge began to rise to accommodate a much taller tug, and it rose to its full majestic height. We felt a few drops of not-rain and moved on, but it was a fascinating slice of river life.
