Ivar Lo

I am reading a novel by another Swedish writer, Per Anders Fogelström, called STOCKHOLM: CITY OF MY DREAMS. It is wonderful as a detailed history of what the city was like at the turn of the 19th/20th century, but for character depth and psychological realism, it can’t touch the novels of Ivar Lo-Johansson, which I was reading last spring. Recalling how much I loved ONLY A MOTHER and BREAKING FREE makes me want to post this portrait of their author, which I snapped the last time I was in Sweden.
