A day of two halves...
Well. It's been a bit of a whirlwind of a day.
We had friends Jennifer and Paul come for lunch with their two golden boys Bertie and Toby. We first met them last year when they were looking for a playmate for their Retriever boys. They are rather wild (the retrievers that is. J&P are well behaved :-)) and we knew that when they got together with Lola today, chaos would ensue.
They arrived just before 1pm and yes, chaos did ensue!
We let them have a run about the garden to burn off some energy but that came to an abrupt end when Lola started digging in a border! Back indoors and chase games round the kitchen island and into the garden room, tongues hanging out and lots of panting (again, for the sake of clarity, I'm taking about the dogs :-))
They did calm down again when I served lunch (which for future reference I shall record here. Wraps with a choice of filling - roasted veg with fajita seasoning, sour cream, grilled halloumi, hummus, salad and coleslaw. For dessert Paul brought a chocolate torte that he'd made himself along with strawberries and a homemade blackcurrant coulis. Absolutely delicious!)
The dogs were fairly well behaved while we ate, cramming themselves under the table in the hope of food falling to the floor. When they did get a little boisterous, David called them to sit and once they quietened and he had their full attention, they got a treat. This worked for a little while till they decided he was a soft touch really and tried to clamber all over him!
As soon as our lunch was over poor Paul and David were sent to Gleneagles moor with the three of them to let them have a mad hour together and hopefully tire each other out. Once they'd gone Jennifer and I made a pot of tea and drank it in the lovely peace whilst having a good old catch up. We're not daft! :-)
When they returned the dogs were rather soggy so had to get a good rub down. We thought they would settle after all that running about the moor, and to be fair, the boys did but Lola would not leave poor Bertie alone! She wanted to lick and chew his ears constantly! Clever Toby took himself off to the kitchen to get some peace. I think Bertie was secretly enjoying the attention though as whenever she stopped and settled quietly beside him, he would shove his head in her face!
I tried so hard to get a decent shot of them individually and together but failed miserably as they were never still for longer than a split second (apart from Toby who posed beautifully for me at one point but just too close to the camera. That shot and some others in extras :-)
Once Paul and David had some coffee and time to catch their breaths, it was time for them to head home. Bertie and Toby are absolutely adorable and I got lovely kisses and cuddles from them both. Hopefully we will see them again soon.
After they left, Lola conked out on the kitchen floor! We let her sleep for an hour then gave her her dinner, let her out for the loo then had to leave her behind as we headed to Alan's holiday house near Cupar. No problems there other than the fact the shower chair provided at the holiday accommodation didn't provide enough support for Alan, so we had to take his own shower chair. As there's no room in the boot for Lola and the chair, we had to leave her behind. I think she was quite happy about that as she was still asleep when we got back!
Got to the holiday accommodation just before 7pm. Jordan, Ashleigh and Alan were out for dinner somewhere so we didn't actually see them but Ash left the key so we could get in.
Once our mission was complete, since we had gone that distance, we headed to St Andrews and had the obligatory fish supper by the sea. Really, the only way to fully enjoy a fish supper is by the sea and if there's a seagull nearby squawking its head off to make the experience all the more authentic, then all the better. This gull was happy to fulfil that brief.
We sat in the car to eat our food as this gull would have stolen our chips as quick as look at us as it was a little rainy.
Drove home in torrential rain (and I mean torrential!) for the most part listening to some radio station that only plays 80s music. We sang at the pitch of our voices all the way!
Lola was definitely better off at home! :-))
