Sky Garden & St Dunstans-in-the-East
I booked a day off work today to tick off two things on my bucket list - a visit to the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street followed by a stroll round the church ruins at St Dunstan in the East.
After parking at Minories and eating a perfect brunch of eggs benedict at a nice cafe I swallowed down my anxiety over the lift that shoots up 35 floors in 20 seconds (very sweaty hands but managed it) and the view from the top was amazing.
It was a perfectly clear day, the Shard directly opposite, the Monument was completely dwarfed, Tower Bridge looking stunning.
It's a great space, free to visit, unpretentious, pretty cool.
A two minute walk down to St Dunstans in the East, a bombed out church, left to ruin. Plants, park benches and a water stone now allow Londoners a peaceful space to lunch. It's strangely calm, a couple of headstones date back to 1811, the arched windows looked like a movie set. Well worth the visit.
