Bedknobs and broomsticks

No broomsticks round here, just a lovely cast iron bedstead. There is nothing nicer, in my book, than a freshly made bed.

I've had this horrible coughing and sneezing thing for the last week and I'm getting a bit fed up of it now. It will probably clear up just in time for when I return to work on the 7th.

On a lighter note, today started with two lovely bits of news:

1) two really nice young men of my aquaintance - Dugald and Dan - announced their engagement. Apparently Dan proposed to Dug at midnight on a bridge in Berlin. So romantic. I'm hoping that it was the Gleinecke Bridge where (allegedly) spies were exchanged during the Cold War.

2) I heard via a chum of mine in Yorkshire that a community group have taken over the running of a Victorian swimming pool which had been earmarked for closure by Leeds City Council. If you read the Guardian, check out the centre photo spread in today's (2nd Jan) edition to see photos of their grand fancy dress opening swim on New Years Day.
