Fin Whale!

This morning I went to Chanonry Point for my last dolphin spotting attempt of this trip. It was a beautiful morning & I sat on a bench & scanned the sea. I saw a fin and thought, 'Great, dolphin already.' I then had another thought of 'That's quite a big dolphin...'

I'd decided to only take photos of salmon chasing or breaches today, NO MORE FINS! So I didn't pick up my camera but I wish I had, as the next moment there was this huge whale doing a blow close to the shore. (Somebody had told me by that point that it was a whale and not a dolphin.) It stayed around for a couple of hours or so and we got quite a few more views, but non so close as that one. I googled 'fin whale' and it seems it can stay underwater for 15 mins or so and it is the second largest mammal in the world. Anyway, the main blip is when it had a blow again but quite distant. If you zoom in you can just about see the head. Brilliant! A couple more in the extras.
