Nosterfield Nature Reserve

Back home now after a very very enjoyable few days by the River Swale.
We can’t wait to return.

We called at this Nature Reserve on the way home. One we have visited before.
150 acres of wet grassland and open water between the Rivers Ure and Swale.
Because of all the rain we expected the area to be flooded, and were surprised the water was quite low.
Not a lot to see, and as it was drizzling, so we stayed in the visitor centre/hide. There were however about 200 Greylag geese feeding on the grass surrounding the lake. Three herons and a white egret along with assorted ducks.
Not easy to see because of the rain.

Will be back to visit again next time we are staying up there.

Last night we had a wonderful meal.
A fabulous pub. Very friendly. Good service and excellent food.
Unfortunately we couldn’t have the Yorkshire Sharing Board as they had sold out at lunch time. They didn’t expect to be so extremely busy.
Good news is that it will be onthe menu for the rest of August, so will hopefully be going again.
The other good news was that it was Steak Night.
We both had a very succulent sirloin steak with all the trimmings, chunky chips and peppercorn sauce. A bottle of red house wine. ( good French one too) all for the remarkable price of £ 29.95!! Unbelievable for the quality of the food and wine.
Will certainly be back.

Forgot to mention the 9lb barbel which a neighbour caught in the river, just in front of the caravan, as we were packing up to leave.
Unfortunately he had put it back in the river before I could reach for my camera.
