Yorkshire Day.
The Yorkshire Flag flying from Helmsley Parish Church.
We spent the afternoon in Helmsley.
Weather turned out hot and sunny, so cooled off with an ice cream from Rayburn Creamery.
The flower displays in the town were fabulous.
I liked the one I have put on as an extra.
We spent the morning trying to find a a favourite view, which we visited about 20 years ago.
Succeeded in the end after taking a wrong road to start with, but when we got there it was drizzling which spoilt the view.
However we will go back another day, and take a walk from there.
Lunch was at Rievaulx Abbey, where they have a wonderful cafe, overlooking the ruins.
It is in the fairly new visitor centre, and has huge windows looking out onto the ruins.
( see extra . View from our table)
Back now having a rest before going out for dinner at the Oak Tree Inn, Helperby.
They have a special Yorkshire sharing board for today.
All Yorkshire produce.
Harrogate Blue cheese fritters and tomato chutney.
Whitby Crab Cakes garlic aioli.
Mackenzie’s smoked chicken Caesar salad
Doreen’s Black Pudding Scotch eggs and rhubarb ketchup.
Black Sheep beer battered haddock and chips with tartare sauce.
Hope it is all tastes as good as it sounds!
Oh, and the good thing is that the river level is going down, slowly.
