The Boy in Blue and Gray...Day Two
Yes Mom, I did change his outfit, and yes, I did have his swimming clothes on him when we got in the falls.
We hit Ocqueoc Falls at 8:30 in the morning, and we had the spot all to ourselves for ninety minutes. While it doesn't look like much of a drop, with the volume of water this year, even I had trouble holding my footing in the middle of the drop. Merrick battled and battled it, and finally held his position.
Later, we went to both the Forty Mile Point and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouses...going up in the first one.
We found another giant Paul Bunyan, and Merrick posed between his legs.
After our sleeping debacle of last night, I stopped and bought a medium-sized tent, and two new air mattresses. After struggling to put it up, it served us well...in spite of the massive thunderstorm that poured down during the night. The inside stayed dry, but we had to put it away wet.
The thumbnail is of Merrick in the wheelhouse of an older Great Lakes freighter. Hard to believe that the ship was decommissioned because it was too small. IT WAS 437 FEET LONG!
