Family wedding!
Saturday
Today we drove over to the small village of Harome north of York, for the wedding of Roger’s nephew Matthew, son of his sister Pamela. We were taking Bernard, Roger’s Dad to the wedding, as Janet and John had been up in Keswick for a singing workshop, and were going straight from there to the wedding. We were so glad that Bernard felt well enough to go to the wedding, as the week before we had arrived in Appleton, he had been quite ill, and even earlier in the week, he was still saying he wouldn’t be able to go, but fortunately a combination of the medications kicking in, and some strong encouragement from Janet and John and us (!), he felt up to it. We had a good drive through some beautiful countryside, arriving a little after midday. The ceremony was at 2 pm in the small village church, followed by the reception at a lovely country pub/hotel just across the road. Janet and John, Bernard and Pam and Mike were staying the night in the hotel, while the four of us were staying in a B&B down the road a bit. We dropped Bernard off at the hotel in the care of Janet and John, who had already arrived, then went to check in at our B&B, which proved to be lovely. After the lovely ceremony, everyone walked along the lane to the hotel. The hotel had a lovely terrace at the back, looking down a grassy slope towards a duck pond across the lane, and champagne and appetizers were served here, in between more photographs being taken. A delicious lunch followed, inside, then speeches and toasts were once again held outside on the terrace. In the early evening there was a cailedh, followed by a disco. Roger’s Dad retired about 7 pm, having enjoyed the day, but needing to go and rest. Most of us had a go at the cailedh dances, but it’s a bit of a struggle with Roger - he’s not very coordinated in that respect and gets his left and right, forward and back mixed up! Laura enjoyed the disco, whilst the older generations sat around and chatted! A wonderful occasion!
