Airport Armageddon

Backblip 5 of 6

Well, quite an eventful day. As our business meetings went so successfully over the last two days we didn't have to go back to the office today and so five of us decided to visit Richmond's Hollywood Cemetry. It was amazing; vast, beautiful, impressive, moving, in fact stirred many emotions. It was hot too, over 100 degrees F! There are former Presidents laid to rest there but for me the many thousands of soldiers killed in the Civil War that pulled my heart strings, some as young 16 years of age.

We popped into Richmond after for a delicious lunch then off to the airport which turned out to be an interesting affair. Two of us has booked to fly from Richmond to Chicago then back on a British Airways A380 in business class, something to look forward to. However, thunderstorms across the country led to many cancellations and delays, including our flight. With the small airport filling up we managed to get an alternative flight to Philadelphia and connection back home, the downside being an economy seat on American Airlines. It was not good, to say the least. Never mind, we were homeward bound and there was a real possibility of getting stuck overnight at the airport.

While we boarded our flight to Philadelphia we were stuck on the ground for 30 minutes or so while the worst of the thunderstorm passed. As you can see from the image it was pretty menacing and didn't disappoint. Once we got airborne the cloud formations were pretty impressive and I've included some in the extras, which are.....

- A view of Hollywood Cemetery and the soldiers' graves
- Richmond building reflections
- A great car licence plate
- Two aerial views of the clouds
- Approach to Philadelphia at twilight
