It's all kicking off in St Ives!

Don't you just hate Facebook sometimes? 

This isn't St Ives. It's Perranporth and my very lovely owner, Ann, took me here today because, unlike St Ives, I'm allowed on this beach all the year round. Unfortunately Ann forgot that doggies have to be kept on their leads here in July & August, (so I had my 'run about time' in the field playing with my ball when I got home). As far as Ann is concerned; keeping doggies on their leads when it's busy is a very sensible solution to a very emotive problem. And actually, to take a dog on a hot beach where there is no shade or to trek them around a town in the middle of the day, when the pavements will be too hot for their paws, is very irresponsible.


But to get back to Facebook......................... Ann follows the 'I Love St Ives' FB page and it would seem that the 'parking enforcement officers' now have powers to issue dog fines (£100 on the spot) to people who walk their dogs on non dog friendly beaches. And the parking enforcement officers are a bit power crazy or maybe they just have to reach their target of so many fines?!


Basically what seems to be happening is.......................... the self-drive boats, that tootle around the bay, are advertising that dogs can go free. This has always been the case. But now.................. the doggies can't actually walk across the beach to get to the boats because the 'parking enforcement officer' is waiting to pounce?! And issue them with a fine! So the doggies are having to be driven across the sand to get to the boats! But, there's not enough signs around to tell the tourists this and as a result loads of them are getting fined. 

This is a tourist town and we rely on tourism to keep us local doggies in the manner to which we've become used to  . Ann says if she'd accidentally walked me across a beach to get to a boat where doggies were allowed on free, she'd be pretty angry if she was slapped with a £100 fine. And no way would she ever return. Tourism is this town's livelihood. This all seems a bit counter productive to us.  For goodness sake; how are tourists who have been coming here for years with their pampered pooches (and taking them on the self drive boats), supposed to know that the parking enforcement officers now have powers to give them a £100 fine for walking a dog on it's lead to get on a free boat trip?  

Ann would love to have a RANT about this?  But she doesn't dare!


Ann loves FB. She posts a lot of stuff on it because she uses it as a diary of our life. And sometimes you can't help but get caught up with all the other stuff on there. A post about 'dogs on beaches' had racked up 92 comments in less than half an hour. Obviously dogs on beaches etc etc is a very emotive subject. BUT seriously peeps.......................... why don't you get off your phone and take your pooch for a nice long walk somewhere cool. Ranting on a FB page is probably just going to make you more wound up about the 'dogs on beaches' issue because the comments just go on and on and on.


PS – My very lovely owner, Ann is the 'Queen of Rants' and she'd love to have a good old rant about this. BUT, she's steering clear of posting any comments on the 'I Love St Ives' FB page because some of the comments etc seem to be turning very nasty/aggressive.



PPS – In our opinion FB has a lot of good points. BUT, you have to be very careful how you use it.


Anyway I had a lovely time at Perranporth and I had a lovely play in the field with my ball.
