The Broadbent Theatre Wickenby
This theatre was started by the actor Jim Broadbent whose parents were conscientious objectors during WW2. The lived with other like minded people in a commune farming in Legsby in Lincolnshire. The play we saw tonight was called The Conchies and told the story of many of the people who lived a peaceful hardworking farming life in Lincolnshire refusing to fight during the war. The commune had its ups and downs, fallouts and arguments, artists, and discussions and poetry readings. The play was based on discussions with people who had lived in the commune one of whom Don Sutherland aged 100 was there tonight.
As we came out the sky was stunning.
