Sea-lavender on the marsh
For a few weeks in the summer the saltmarsh is transformed by sea-lavender. In such a salty harsh environment it is surprising that anything grows but this beautiful purple plant loves it and I love the colour of the marsh at this time pf year. This is at Donna Nook - famous for its grey seal colony in the winter months , but at this time of year it is quiet and the rich flowers of the dunes and the marsh are alive with bees and insects. it is also an RAF practice area and you can see the targets in this photo as the aircraft regularly fly on exercises across the marsh. Today the red flag was flying so you could not walk across the marsh but could just enjoy the beauty of the colours of the marsh. the dunes were alive with butterflies and insects. a lovely early walk.
