After yesterday’s rain it was good to get out into the countryside again and walk through the nature reserve at Aberlady.  Unlike last week when it was too dull and windy for butterflies today there were very many but as usual most, including the blues, were too quick for me to take a photo.
I was struck by the number of butterflies and different insects sharing the hogweed and counted 37, including several Ringlets and a Small Heath butterfly. There were several bugs and some impressive ichneumon wasps with their bright yellow and black abdomens and legs (extra 1) and others that I can’t identify.
(Extras 2 and 3)  Towards Gullane Point the orange Dark Green Fritillaries stayed still long enough for photos as did some Small Skippers. Several times I have seen Woolly Bear caterpillars earlier in the year there, so was pleased to see a Garden Tiger moth (extra 4) which I think had just emerged from its pupa.  Apparently it has declined 92% in the past 40 years so is no longer common unlike the burnet moths which were very prolific.

I realise that by cropping the main photo it fulfills the Widewednesday challenge of 'plenty'  and also the other two challenges with the wild flower and butterflies.
