Morning Light

The sun had been shining for over an hour at our house. Maya and Owen have decided to call it "The White House"--a bit grandiose but certainly descriptive. We walked down to the bridge over the creek with Ozzie, where the sun was just starting to top the hills and catch the tops of the trees. It was still cold as an icebox in the shade. We are enjoying lovely crisp clear days as the year draws to a close.

Once back at the White House, we reluctantly dragged ourselves away from our coffee and papers to go to Sebastopol for a couple more loads of stuff. This is disheartening because we don't really have places to put the stuff we already have, so we are definitely losing the struggle to free the garage for the second car. Soon we will have to make some runs to the dump the recycle center and the charity shop. But everything hinges on everything else, and we seem to have reached a temporary stalemate.

Perhaps another day of rest and recreation is in order.I had thought to go to the "J" winery for a New Year's Eve bottle of bubbly, but it turns out they have it at a very good price at the Safeway just down the road. The humblest of grocery stores in this county have huge wine sections, complete with little handwritten descriptions--not that "...a good nose with hints of chocolate, peat moss and pomegranate..." help me much . I also think I'm supposed to make a dish of black eyed peas and greens to ring in the new year, although I'm not sure why. I am sure we can find some wonderful local bread and cheese to go with our humble meal--there is no shortage of bakeries or cheese makers here. I can think of worse ways to spend a day.
