Le Grand Balcon Nord

My Bro reckoned it would be "impossible" to beat yesterday's views. Hmmm, I'll take that challenge...

We started with a ride on the little red train up to Montenvers (extra1) and then down to the ice cave into the glacier (this was heartbreaking, but I'll probably write about it later in the week).
Then à fabulous high level traverse along one of the truly classic walks and across to the Midi Plan lift station, lots of gasps  wows and big big smiles. What a place for a picnic. 
We made good time and rode the lift up to the Aiguille du Midi. A moody swirling cloudscape, but you have to roll the dice. We were the only people to choose to ride the Helbronner lift over the Mer de Glace. We were rewarded with truly stunning views, extras 2&3, and a cheeky bière and cake in Italy. 

But the day really was about those smiles. Showing people we love the places we love, it's easy to forget the wonder of seeing this place for the first time. It's an honour and joy to see others experience it. 
That made choosing today's main blip easy.
