Not S.O.S. - S.M.S.
Save My Sarracenia.
It's had a hard life during the last 7 years poor thing, and each year I've said "Must try a rescue sometime."
"Sometime" has finally arrived.
Phase 1 a/b.- a.Take it out. b. Find what it ought to be in.
I put in at the edge of the pond; so it's always moist enough - BUT - checking up on planting medium:-
1. "Soil - Use a soil mixture of 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite. Never use potting soil, compost or fertilizer; these ingredients will kill your plants." This from a supplier's page.
2. "Sarracenia will grow quite happily in live Sphagnum alone. In fact better results are often claimed than for peat based media."
After
3. "Moss peat, perlite AND washed sand works OK for me (sand is sharp or grit) - normally in around 3:1:1 mix."
it became apparent that I have a fair choice and that it was probably "too rich a diet" for it.
We shall see how it goes.
Seven years ago, almost to the day, Jerra said he would follow it with interest - follow away me lad.
