2019 Wednesday — Gentle & Peaceful

As we sit here on the front porch of our Southern California home, we are at the junction of Gentle and Peaceful. See the street signs.

We both commented on how much we have enjoyed returning to this address, to this home that was our first house purchase when we were newlyweds. We purchased this home from my parents. They had owned it for a short 6 years. They bought the house when it was new. We had been renting it for 3 1/2 years from them when we purchased it in 1970.

We’ve been back here for just 1 year. It’s a crummy little house that we have slowly been improving some. It was a rental for 24 years while we lived in a big lovely home. To say the renters didn’t take care of it and to say the property manager did not do a quality job of managing it would be telling the truth. But the good in this story is the enormous increase in property value that has happened during those 24 years.

So we sit on the porch enjoying the last of Thursday’s sunshine and enjoying the reality that we are glad to be back in our former neighborhood.
