A day of two halves - after the deluge 2
This evening really was a complete contrast to the rest of the day.
I spent the morning in the garden getting lots done and around 2.30pm C and I decided to walk via the cycle path to Roseburn and Stockbridge. It was warm but very pleasant. I spotted these blackfly on a dock plant on the bridge over the Water of Leith. There was only one plant in a group of several affected, and it was absolutely covered. If you look at the second half of the collage you'll see the ants who are farming them and keeping them in place.
We managed to get to Stockbridge in the dry and had a coffee and spelt scone in Soderberg. Just as we left it looked as if the heavens were about to open, it got so black. We made a joint decision to get a bus to Telford Road and walk from there, which we did and managed to get home fairly dry. A little later the heavens opened - we had thunder and lightning and if you look carefully at the extra collage you'll see we had hailstones too. Our garage, which is full of A and S's belongings is flooded for the second time in a week in spite of the sandbags we put to try to protect it.
The rain continued full force for at least a couple of hours and then, later on, about 10pm, as if butter wouldn't melt we had this glorious sky. Let's hope it really is a Shepherd's delight.
Still 'burping' my elderflower champagne about 4 times a day, the idea of missing letting out the gas is rather terrifying.
15065 steps today, before the rains came! It reminds me of that song about where the wise man built his house! ... 'the rains came down and the floods came up!!!!.... '
