Bridge Tribute

The sign in the foreground bench is a tribute to the bridge tenders of the past. The new high rise bridge replaced the old ‘swing bridge.’
The swing bridge operated by a tender on duty at the time by swinging to the side (horizontally) to allow boat traffic on the waterway. Most people are probably more familiar with a draw bridge which operates up and down (vertically).
The old swing bridge required human control and progress won out. The bridge tenders looked else where for employment. A future blip will be of the old tenders house which was preserved for historical significance.
