Tommy
After a half decent sleep we woke early and went to our favourite breakfast place in Whitby. A little cafe called Monks Haven on Church Street. After gluten free full English for Rich and scrambled eggs on toast for me we walked it off by tackling the 199 steps up to the Abby. Later we bought giant cables and lollies for the kids and Bothams biscuits for work and Rich's mum. We then drove the 40 odd miles up the coast to Seaham. Rich wanted to see the Tommy statue. It is big, beautiful and also quite moving. A lovely tribute to soldiers that lost their lives in WW1. There was also an RNLI fundraising thing going on down in the harbour with boat rides, lifeboat tours and a group of fishermen singing sea shanties.
We're home now. A wash already in the machine and dinner in the oven. I'm exhausted. Weekends away are fun but can also be very tiring. Good job I had the sense to take tomorrow as an annual leave day so at least I've got some time to catch up with things before I'm back to work.
