Venice

It was stinking hot but we went on two vaporetto rides. On the 2 down the Grand Canal and out to the Lido and then the 5.1 which comes around the outside of the island of Venice going from east to west on the northernside. We had ringside seats to the incredible bustle and contracts of this elusive and magical city.

Taking photos on the fast moving and swaying vaporettos is a lot of fun. In the end I chose this gondolier who at that instant seemed the calm centre in the hustle and bustle of the Grand Canal.

There are a few extras

looking towards the hug chemical works at Porto Marghera
loading boats with produce and supplies for delivery
a heart on the Grand Canal
the place not to be - near St Mark's
a floating church
an island full of Terns with Murano in the background
Cannaregio
Tugs
Liner under tow by three tugs (one of which crashed into the Dosroduro recently and sparked more protests and demonstrations by residents fed-up with these monsters coming into the heart of the city).
