The dropped stitch

A pause for thought

As I passed the Lerwick Town Hall today I remembered how it used to be that a walk round the town had to include a stop to look at these sea serpents coiled on either side of the grand doors.

With one daughter a toddler and the other in a pushchair it was a hard slog up from Commercial Street, but we were rewarded with the playpark, the Flower park, the library and a visit to the Town Hall 'fish'.

When they were older, Town Hall visits were sometimes twice weekly. The daughters' fiddle group met here for practices and often performed for evening events. I don't expect they gave the fish a second glance as they filed in through the front door, catching up on the latest gossip with their friends.

When the grandchildren were little I found myself once again pushing a pram round Lerwick.
Of course, the Town Hall fish were on our route!
