Local Heroine

Back in the early Ninteeth Century there was a violent storm off the coast. A ship had foundered near to Banburgh. There was no such thing as Coastgurads in those days. It seemed that all would perish on the ship. But with indomitable spirit a lone local lady rowed out the ship to ferry the crew back to the safetly of the shore.

Grace Darling became famous overnight !! But this wonderful person had a tragically short life, dying at the age of 26. Her tomb is in the churchyard at Banburgh.
