Rothbury in the Mizzle

We went 'en famille' for a cold, wintry, wet, drizzly, misty, cloudy, cloddy, yet surprisingly refreshing walk in the hills and woods behind Cragside House near Rothbury. It turned out to be a race against time, as we started late, the clouds came down, the rain bore into our souls, and then it became gloomy and dark. A little like Lord of the Rings really. Only thing missing was a Smeagle, as we played the role of Hobbits.

This certainly burnt off a few calories and was the perfect antidote to Xmas overindulgence. This walk is so different in fine weather, but the colours, especially the greens, browns and silver from the birch trees, certainly make it interesting and very refreshing.

Hope it stops raining tomorrow.
