Hip Check
What attracted me mainly about this tree was its gesture, by which I mean the kinks in its trunk, that give it an anthropomorphic impression. The lower appears at hip level, hence this post's title. I was also interested in the light hitting the left side adding a touch of dimension and by the texture of the bark.
I used a long lens to pick out the broken stump and further enhanced by a shallow depth of field to isolate it from the background. There is some nice light behind it also and my regret was in not moving slightly right to allow the lighted saplings more room.
I added an extra of the setting sun from later in the evening which is unusual in that the veiled red sun is set against a darkening clear sky. Although I like the simplicity, I'm posting it more for a record than its photographic merits.
