Remembering
It is a year to the day that a huge curved ball walloped into the Dower House in the form of a late afternoon phone call from the hospital telling His Lordship that he had pancreatic cancer. We were not prepared for the news and certainly not over the phone. It would be another fortnight before any hope was extinguished when we were told the tumour was inoperable. Our Orkney holiday was cancelled and we began the worst 6 months of our lives, full of pain and heartache as the clock ticked.
But life must go on and today I am awaiting the arrival of Shipley daughter and grandsons to the Dower House for 3 days on their mid term break. It’s a shame that it is wet again as they could run off extra energy outside after their train journey.
I haven’t seen them since the beginning of January so there will be the usual - ‘Am I taller than Grandma yet?’comparisons to be made. It seems that it’s only Ewan age 5 who is significantly shorter than me now.
PS As I write this, Rosie has phoned to say that Leeds station is indefinitely closed as there is someone threatening to throw themselves on a live wire. She is now having to drive up with two disgruntled boys. Lots of tlc has been ordered to make up for the missed train ride.
