2019 Sunday — Formula 1 Race
This was my view for most of the afternoon. Our son-in-law, John, invited us to come spend the day at his home so Mr. Fun could watch the Indy 500 race and the Monaco Formula 1 race, and then when that ended the NASCAR race from Charlotte, North Carolina, was being televised.
Mr. Fun had headed across town at 9:00 a.m., to be there when the Indy Race began. I stayed home to get a few things done . . . I finished grading the last project my students had submitted this past Tuesday. Now I have five students’ revisions to read and I will be ready for this Tuesday’s classes.
Mr. Fun had said that he thought the Indy race would end about 11:00. So when I hadn’t heard from him by 12:45, I texted him to ask if I should drive there or did he want to come get me. He responded that the race had just ended and that I should come join them.
We had thought that we might also bring our three pups, but I decided to leave them home in their crates because John has two pups and I thought there might be a bit of jealousy. I knew our three were going to snooze all afternoon. John’s dogs, Ladybug and Buddy, both were extremely affectionate and even though they are slightly too big to be lap-dogs, ladybug did her best to cuddle with me.
The weather was cold and a very mild mist rained several times throughout the day. John kept a fire stoked for warmth; this was very unusual weather for Memorial Day Weekend. We never get quite enough winter in Southern California, so this “cold almost rainy climate” was rather enjoyable.
About 6:00 p.m. John cooked hot dogs and the three of us enjoyed dinner. Our grandson, Emerson, had gone to work earlier in the day because a machine was broken—he’s the maintenance man—at his company. He was not home to join us for dinner.
A little after 7:00 we headed for home so our 3 pups could be released from their crates and to also have their dinner.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m., I headed for bed because I had stayed up way too late the night before. I tend to be a night person and if I stay up, I get a second wind and then I have a tough time getting to sleep—I lie in bed deconstructing the entire day or building the next day in my mind—so early to bed seemed like a good plan.
Good night from SoCal,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
