Gloomy day

It’s warmer but I am down with a stinker of a cold. Driving near Caiano I saw young boar but by the time I’d stopped they’d wriggled off through the thick bush. But I saw this flower (orchid?) growing on a steep damp bank.

Apparently italy has a hundred or so varieties of wild orchid http://www.italy-tours-in-nature.com/orchids-of-italy.html

Night has fallen, the first cicada are fitfully greeting. ‘Hope is the last thing to die’ says our neighbour looking at their waterlogged plot.

He is in his late eighties and is ready to pack it in - the veg and the weekend house. His wife isn’t ready to give up the fight and their place on the junction by the little church.

And so May, in person and in season staggers to its soggy dispiriting end.

Did I say I was feeling gloomy?
